Full Governing Body Meeting (and chocolates)

The staple diet of a school governor

The Full Governing Body (FGB) met tonight, with a packed agenda.

We completed our Register of Members and conducted our usual formalities to open the meeting.
In Mr Cowling's Headteacher report, we heard about the fantastic opportunities the children have had recently - the Young Voices Choir and the inter-school cycling competition to name just two.
We heard about the latest investment in a new KS1 structured reading scheme which will support teachers in delivering the curriculum, and the new maths equipment that has been purchased for in-class use.
Updates were provided on staff training that has been undertaken, and upcoming training for staff.

As always, we discussed problematic parking around school and reiterated that our pupils' safety is the absolute paramount. As part of this discussion, we talked about the new barriers to the car park and the impact it has had.

Safeguarding and Health and Safety, as ever, were important agenda items and we also looked in closer detail at attendance.

We looked closely at the School Development Plan and the school's main priorities for development. As part of that, we looked at how our teachers are developing their professional practice in areas such as Guided Reading and vocabulary teaching. Relative to this discussion, we discussed mental health and work life balance of our staff and pupils.

As a governing body we are very keen on increasing 2-way communication with parents and discussed ways we can engage parents further (If you have any thoughts on this please let us know!). We are also keen on ensuring staff have effective ways to feedback their thoughts and have started to think how we can do that effectively.

As always, the children at Fosse Way Academy have been our raison d'etre throughout our meeting.

Our next scheduled meetings are Sub-Committee meetings in February, and we will update again then.

In the meantime, please get in touch if you have any thoughts, comments or questions.
