Our First Zoom Meeting!
On 18th May, the Fosse Way governors met for
their first Zoom meeting.
Mrs Cotton opened the meeting by shared a report about the
Year 1 and 2 curriculum as well as standards across the year groups. The report included lots of detail and the
positive impact of the recently introduced Read Write Inc. Phonics approach was
very clear. Mrs Cotton also explained
how this had been introduced across Early Years, Key Stage One and Key Stage
Two.
After reviewing and agreeing the minutes of the previous
meeting, Mr Cowling’s headteacher report was discussed. An outline of the support currently being offered
to children and their families was given by Mr Cowling. As well as the school being open to key
worker families and vulnerable children, support included regular contact with and
support from Mrs Brook (family support worker) and Mrs Lee (SENDCo); food
vouchers and parcels; home learning
projects; phone, email and video contact with teachers and much more.
Mr Cowling praised the Fosse Way staff for their hard work
during this unusual and challenging time and commented on the high standard of the
learning experiences and support offered to both the children still attending
school and those engaging in their learning from home. This praise was echoed by the governing body
who thanked the staff for their commitment and support.
Safeguarding was next on the agenda and Mr Cowling gave his
usual update. He explained that the whole school had been deep cleaned in
preparation for welcoming back pupils when it is safe to do so. Once school is reopen, enhanced cleaning procedures
will continue and there will be cleaners working onsite throughout the school
day.
Mr O’Halloran gave a financial update before discussions
turned to the government’s announcement that schools may reopen to Early Years,
Year 1 and Year 6 from the first of June.
Mr Cowling shared the progress made by the senior leadership
team who have been preparing, risk assessing and planning for the potential reopening. He explained that guidance was being updated
and extended daily and all plans were being reviewed against this
information. Risk assessments and plans
will be shared electronically with the governors as soon as they are complete
so that feedback can be given.
Mr Cowling highlighted the fact that, if school reopens to
Early Years, Year 1 and Year 6 on the first of June, the focus of the
curriculum will be pastoral initially whilst children readjust to a school life
which will undoubtedly be very different.
Following questions and comments from the governors, the
meeting ended with Mr Cowling
reiterating that risk assessments and plans will
be shared with governors as soon as possible.
