Tonight we welcomed Mrs Sowersby to the meeting as new staff representative on the Governing Body. Mrs Sowersby will no doubt offer lots to our discussions from a staff perspective. We discussed staffing arrangements for next year and the numbers of children that we will be welcoming to our Early Years - we can't wait to meet all our new pupils in September! Mr Cowling gave his usual very detailed Head Teacher's report which highlighted the latest news from school, including all of the wonderful wider-curriculum activities that have taken place in school recently, and the recent building work on the new kitchen and PE cupboards. New PE equipment cupboards look great! The previous PE storeroom is now a kitchen area for our wraparound provision Our Sub-Committee Chairpersons reported back to the group the minutes from the last round of Finance and Standards Sub-Committees, including Mrs Lee's comprehensive SEND provision presentation. Mr O'Halloran detai...

Holiday Club

Image
In between busy Sub Committee meetings tonight we had an additional meeting to discuss Fosse Way's potential Holiday Club. Although there is lots to think about, arrange and organise to ensure high calibre, safe and rewarding provision for our children, we were in agreement that October 2019 will be the first school holiday that we aim to start providing a holiday club.  Staff at Fosse Way are currently working hard behind the scenes looking into this, and starting to make arrangements - so if you have any thoughts, comments or questions then please get in touch. Watch this space for more information: exciting times ahead!  Additionally tonight we had a presentation from school's SENDCo, Mrs Lee, updating us with a very comprehensive review as to how school 's SEND practices work, and the processes involved in identifying needs and providing for our children. Thanks to Mrs Lee for the in depth presentation. With the holidays fast approaching, we ho...

We welcomed two new members to our Governing Body tonight, who bring with them a wealth of experience and wide range of skills;  Welcome to Catherine and Gemma! We are pleased to have both on board and are really looking forward to working together for the benefit of our school and its community. A busy agenda tonight (when isn't it!) covered a wide range of subjects. Subject-link Governors gave feedback to the group regarding their recent monitoring visits to school; We discussed the report from our Independent Education Consultant and this will lead to further dissection in our next Standards Sub-Committee. Speaking of which, our Sub Committee Chairpersons gave their reports on the latest round of meetings. We looked at parking arrangements around school and the impact it is having, and may have in the future. As always, child safety is our main concern and we will support whatever initiatives make the roads around school safer for our community. We talked about future pl...

Full Governing Body Meeting (and chocolates)

The staple diet of a school governor The Full Governing Body (FGB) met tonight, with a packed agenda. We completed our Register of Members and conducted our usual formalities to open the meeting. In Mr Cowling's Headteacher report, we heard about the fantastic opportunities the children have had recently - the Young Voices Choir and the inter-school cycling competition to name just two. We heard about the latest investment in a new KS1 structured reading scheme which will support teachers in delivering the curriculum, and the new maths equipment that has been purchased for in-class use. Updates were provided on staff training that has been undertaken, and upcoming training for staff. As always, we discussed problematic parking around school and reiterated that our pupils' safety is the absolute paramount. As part of this discussion, we talked about the new barriers to the car park and the impact it has had. Safeguarding and Health and Safety, as ever, were import...

Tonight's Full Governing Body meeting

A packed agenda at tonight's Full Governors meeting meant the coffee pot(s) got drained. We started the evening with our external auditors financial report from our accountants, Baldwins Audit Services. After the Head Teacher's report, we looked at attendance and the issues around the topic of term time holidays. We then looked at the School Development Plan and how governors will be involved over the forthcoming year. The School Development Plan includes improving outcomes in maths and english, the mental health of members of our school, the continuing personal development of staff, and improving the provision and outcomes for groups of pupils across the curriculum. Governors are looking forward to being involved. We are currently looking for additional members of our governing body. If you are a parent or a member of our local community and are interested in joining, please get in touch!

Our first meeting of 2018/19

Image
Our first meeting of 2018/19 was a busy one, with lots on the agenda. We started by nominating the members of our Finance, Premises and Standards sub committees, as well as our Health and Safety and Safeguarding lead governors for the academic year. We discussed the recent Year 6 trip to PGL, which sounds like a great success, and a really worthwhile experience for the children. Our thanks to the staff who accompanied the children on the trip, it wouldn't have been possible without their commitment. Staffing and staff CPD was also on the agenda, as well as the Governments proposed pay recommendations for staff. We briefly looked at academic performance, and this will be dissected further in the next Standards sub-committee meeting. As part of our ongoing commitment to the school, we also looked at training opportunities for the governing body, and will be conducting a skills analysis on ourselves to identify any skills gaps that might need addressing by way of recruitment to...
